ANDY PRIOR:

AS Grade: A+, AS answers: 6 of 6

We would love to have eight clones to run for the other positions of the council.

Ignacio Nunez:

AS Grade: C-, AS answers: 6 of 6

He sees poverty as an issue but does not offer a clear tax cut to help.

May 4, 2019 City Council Elections

Our editorial staff has evaluated candidates through forums, answers to questionnaires, and at times have obtained other information about the candidates through experience. We offer you our best choices.

Our selection process was based on what we determined to be the higher priorities that the Council needs to address, chiefly communications and taxes pricing people out of their homes. A high need for public transportation would be a negative to possible slowing of taxes.

If a candidate is sending out multiple brochures in the mail, you may want to check out who has bought/is buying the candidate. Finance reports filed with the city are here: [https://www.arlingtontx.gov/cms/One.aspx?portalId=14481146&pageId=14975710]. And if you see something like the Apartment Association of Tarrant County, for example, or any numerous other items, you can pretty much rule out the prioritizing of the citizens by that candidate.

Early Voting starts Monday, April 22, and ends Tuesday, April 30. Election Day is Saturday, May 4. Early voting can occur at any Tarrant County Early Voting location. Election day voting must occur at your precinct. Hours are 8am-5pm Monday, 4/22 – Friday, 4/26. Saturday, 4/27 is 7am-7pm. Sunday, 4/28 is 11am-4pm. Monday, 4/29 – Tuesday, 4/30 is 7am-7pm. Election Day, Saturday, 5/4 is 7am-7pm.

Mayor's Race – Recommend ASHTON STAUFFER

ASHTON STAUFFER:

AS Grade: A, AS answers: 6 of 6

A lot of positives, especially the need to lower the taxes and help small businesses.

Chris Dobson:

AS Grade : C, AS answers: 3 of 6. We did have two answers from prior years of the three missing answers.

Improved as a candidate, wants to be able to use app to poll citizens.

Ruby Woolridge:

AS Grade: D+, AS answers: 4 of 6

Though she did not answer the public transportation question, she did want to use the 1/4-cent available sales tax for it.

Jeff Williams:

AS Grade: F, AS answers: 0 of 6

If you include the questions from 2 years ago, 0 of 12 AS answers. Does not want AS readers' vote. Favors special interests far too much.

District 3 Race – No Recommendation

Roxanne Thalman:

AS Grade: C-, AS answers 0 of 6, We did have answers on 3 questions from 2 years ago.

She stood up against the “establishment” on waiving the rules to put additional “term limits” item on the ballot. Has shown no interest in controlling increasing government or wasteful transportation spending. Childish.

Marvin Sutton:

AS Grade: C-, AS answers 2 of 6, We did have 2 answers from 2 years ago.

Worse than Thalman on transportation issue. Taxes, who knows? Lost the runoff by 3 votes two years ago.

OUR VOTE: Our vote would come down to the very last tie breaker, which candidate would shake up the council more and we will vote Marvin Sutton.

District 4 Race – Recommend TERESA RUSHING

Andrew Piel:

AS Grade: F, AS answers 0 of 6

It’s rather amusing that he would give out his phone number at the forums, as if he wanted to communicate. However, we ask six simple question and can't get a single response from him. A history of preferring higher taxes.

Cindi Golden:

AS Grade: B-, AS answers 6 of 6

Some, but not enough interest in curbing increasing taxes. Expanding VIA city-wide costs far more than benefit merits, for something that is in direct competition with the private sector and greatly aids non-Arlington residents, vs. Arlington residents.

TERESA RUSHING:

AS Grade: A, AS answer 6 of 6, 2 were provided late, but had those we also had answers from 2 years ago.

A lot of positives. Taxes are too high. NO to publicly run transportation.

District 5 Race – Recommend ANDY PRIOR

ANDY PRIOR:

AS Grade: A+, AS answers: 6 of 6

We would love to have eight clones to run for the other positions of the council.

Kennedy Jones:

AS Grade : B-, AS answers: 5 of 6.

Sees the pain of taxes; however, feels a need for public transportation.

Celia Morgan:

AS Grade: D+, AS answers: 2 of 6

Not a lot of positives to go on.

Ignacio Nunez:

AS Grade: C-, AS answers: 6 of 6

He sees poverty as an issue but does not offer a clear tax cut to help.

District 8 Race – Recommend ROBERT HARRIS

Don Warner:

AS Grade: C+, AS answers 6 of 6

He does not seem to have enough interest in protecting the taxpayer. Insists on a public transportation plan.

Barbara Odom-Wesley:

AS Grade: C+, AS answers 6 of 6

The feeling for the need for transportation is too high. She did see “attitude” as the issue the City Council needs to address.

Joshua Taylor:

AS Grade: D, AS answers 0 of 6

Brother of police deadly force victim.

ROBERT HARRIS:

AS Grade: A-, AS answer 6 of 6

We liked the high tech jobs, vs. just jobs attitude.
